5 Ways to Prepare Your Body Before A Boudoir Session

Boudoir photography is an empowering form of expression that captures a woman's sensuality, personality, beauty and confidence. Whether you’re planning a session to celebrate a personal milestone, looking to give the photos as a gift or just looking to treat yourself to an unforgettable experience, preparing your body and mind can enhance your comfort and confidence in front of the camera. Here are five essential tips to help you prepare your body for a boudoir photo session.

Hydrate and Eat Well

In the days leading up to your session, make sure to hydrate adequately. Drinking plenty of water will help your skin look naturally moisturized and vibrant. Avoid excessive alcohol and salty foods, which can lead to bloating and water retention. Instead, focus on a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins to keep your energy levels up and your body feeling great.

Skin Care

Radiant skin is a key component of feeling confident during your shoot. Start a skincare routine that includes exfoliating and moisturizing a few days before your session. Additionally, pay special attention to any area you plan to have visible.  If you plan on showing more skin, extend this care to your entire body. A gentle scrub and a hydrating lotion can work wonders, giving your skin a smooth, even appearance. Unless you're an all-natural girlie, make sure to shave everything that you don't want hair visible. The camera will picks up details that most people wouldn't normally see.   Also, avoid tanning beds and lotions unless we have specifically talked about this ahead of time.

Rest Up

Furthermore, a well-rested body looks and feels better on camera. Make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before your session to avoid dark circles and bags under your eyes. Feeling fresh and rested will also help you maintain high energy levels and a positive mood during the shoot, allowing your inner beauty to shine through.

Nail Care

Subtle details can make a significant impact in your photos. Manicured hands and feet look polished and professional in close-up shots where they might be prominent. Choose a nail polish color that complements your outfits and overall style of the shoot. Neutral and blush colors are often a safe choice because we want the focus on you, not your nails!

Stretch Before the Shoot

This part is more important than you'll expect!  While your photographer will guide you during the session, stretching before the shoot can enhance your flexibility and ease of movement, allowing you to feel more comfortable while posing. Spend some time gently stretching your muscles, focusing on areas like your neck, shoulders, arms, and legs. This can help prevent stiffness and allow you to move gracefully between poses. Furthermore, it’s also a great way to relax your body and calm your mind, setting a positive tone for your photo session.

Preparing for a boudoir session is as much about feeling good internally as it is about looking good externally. These steps not only prepare your body but also help you mentally gear up for an empowering and enjoyable experience. Remember, the goal of boudoir photography is to celebrate you, so embrace this opportunity to focus on self-care and self-love!  You deserve the pampering!
