Sports Photos & Why I Love Them

An Athlete at Heart

Sports photos my seem like a stretch when most of my photography is beauty or boudoir, but I have been surrounded by sports my entire life!  I have always been competitive and athletic.  Not only did I play softball and tennis for many years, but I dabbled in golf and volleyball too.  Plus, while growing up you'd find me in the front yard playing with the neighbor boys.  It didn't matter if it was football, baseball, basketball or riding dirt bikes over makeshift ramps...I was doing it.  So, it wasn't too much of a surprise when I decided to go into athletic training as a profession.  (No, not personal training. An athletic trainer works with sports teams and athletes to prevent, assess, and rehabilitate injuries.)  

Athletic Training...The Second Link to Sports Photos

As an athletic trainer, I was contracted to work at a local high school where I was surrounded by athletes and sports for almost 10 years.   Once I stopped working at the high school, I continued working in a physical therapy office for another 9 years.  Over the course of the last night years, I had a hobby that I absolutely loved, photography! So, as you can see sports has been part of my life for a very long time and honestly, boudoir has only been an interest of mine for about 2 years.  So, it only seems fitting that I include sports as an option. 

Empowering Women

As you can see, I don't do your average sports photos.  I love these more edgy and fun shoots, with or without fire.  However, the most important thing I love about these photos is that they empower young women to own their strength and who they are as an athlete.  So, regardless of whether I'm photographing a woman in her 40s and helping her to accept her maturing body or photographing a young female athlete, I am empowering her to love herself in photos and be the goddess that she is!

Don't worry, I won't turn the boys away.  They'll love the photos too!
