How Sue Bryce Changed My Life

Sue Bryce is a name that you probably haven’t heard of if you aren’t a photographer in the woman’s portraiture world, but Sue Bryce changed the course of my life.  She is an amazing woman and maybe that’s why she refuses to take credit for the changes in my life and the lives of thousands of other photographers!  Her rationale is that she provided the information but we had to believe in ourselves and actually take action in order for our dreams to turn into reality!  Ok, touché Sue, touché!

A Little History

Let me give you a little backstory.  I had been gradually learning my camera and honing my craft for approximately 10 years with the goal of turning my hobby into a legitimate business.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t making any real progress towards a sustainable photography business.  Like most photographers, I had dabbled in multiple genres and taking everything and anything that came my way.  During this time, I attended a photography conference and connected with photographers from all over the United States.  One of these new friends mentioned loving Sue Bryce’s style.  I can remember thinking that I should look her up, but I never did.

How I Found Sue Bryce

A few years later, in 2018, I "randomly stumbled" upon one of Sue Bryce’s videos.  While I was getting ready that morning, something compelled me to open the Creative Live app, an educational platform for creatives covering a wide range of topics. Low and behold, their free photography video of the day was one of Sue Bryce’s courses.  I remembered her name so I started watching.  It didn’t take long for me to get hooked!  Her style.  Her purpose.  Her desire to help women see their beauty.  Her mission to help women fall in love with their photos! EVERYTHING!

So, now I was on a mission to absorb everything I could because I needed more of her in my life!  Thankfully, she had her own learning platform with everything I needed to catapult my busines!  I spend hours upon hours watching and learning, practicing, stumbling, trying again, more watching and more learning.  You get the picture, right?

Why I'm Deeply Connected to Photos

Furthermore, the reason her style and mission resonated with me so much is that there was a time in my life where I had little to no self confidence or self esteem.  I hated getting in front of the camera because I was never happy with the way I looked, with the exception of my senior photo and a photo from my wedding day.  As I listened to her talk about women’s portraiture and her mission, I vividly remember thinking about those photos and how pretty I was and it got me thinking.  How could I only be pretty twice in my life?  That realization made a huge impact in the way I looked at myself.  Photography (and some inner work) has played a huge role in helping me see my beauty so it was only natural that her style and mission resonated with me! I finally found a genre that lights me up and fills my heart!

Everything Happens For A Reason

So, while I say I “randomly stumbled” upon her video, I wholeheartedly believe that it as fate!  I could have looked her up at any point over the previous couple of years, but I didn’t.  God knew I wasn’t ready for it.  Everything happens for a reason and I was finally meant to connect with her, her teachings, a business that fills my heart and a business that is capable of providing the life I have worked hard to have!

The Portrait Masters Conference

Not only have I been learning from this woman for the past 5 years, but she enabled me to connect to many other wonderful photographers and mentors through her online platform and through her photography conference, The Portrait Masters (TPM).  Earlier this month, I attended the last TPM conference that Sue Bryce will host.  As any good entrepreneur does, she has built her businesses up to be massively successful and is now handing over the reins to another photography company so she can move on to other ventures. Therefore, it was bittersweet for me to attend my first and the last TPM (as we know it) this year!  I only wish that I had been able to physically meet and grab a selfie with her, but it wasn’t meant to be.  Regardless, I was beyond grateful to attend, learn and be in the presence of so many amazingly wonderful photographers! I learned so much at the conference and will continue to grow as a photographer, business owner and a person!

In conclusion, even though I've never met her in person, I wouldn't be where I am in my life or in my photography career if Sue Bryce hadn't come into my life.  By implementing what she taught, I was able to open a photography studio offering beauty, boudoir and branding photography to women which fills my heart!  If you're ready to feel empowered and love yourself in photos, let's chat!  I would love to show you how beautiful you are through my lens!
